Abstract

Penelitian ini fokus pada faktor perkembangan Gereja Katolik Santo Fransiskus Assisi yang sudah berdiri pada tahun 1960. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Hal pokok dalam pendekatan ini adalah melaluis studi dokumen, dan wawancara mendalam terhadap pelaku seperti Pastor, Pegawai Paroki dan beberapa umat gereja yang sudah lama ada di gereja ini. Agar mempertajam analisis, penelitian juga menggunakan metode penelitian sejarah. Adapun bagian-bagian dari metode penelitian sejarah ini, di antaranya heuristik, kritik sumber, interpretasi dan historiografi (penulisan). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan berkembangnya gereja disebabkan oleh berkembangnya jumlah jemaat umat Katolik di Kota Padang sejak masa Orde Baru.
