Six parcs, près de 500 heures d’observation, plus de 60 entrevues, une question: que font les jeunes de 16 à 25 ans, la nuit, à Montréal? Alors qu’elle se place en opposition à la vie civilisée et légitime du jour, la nuit se définit sous deux angles: d’une part comme un moment d’insécurité, de vulnérabilité accentuées pour certain-es, de l’autre comme un moment de liberté et d’explorations festives. Alors que Montréal entame une réflexion sur la gouvernance nocturne et au regard des exemples européens où la nuit est déjà bien investie par un encadrement misant sur la marchandisation de l’hyperactivité nocturne, nos données récoltées à l’été 2020 révèlent une troisième dimension de la nuit; celle où les jeunes vivent des activités nocturnes ordinaires, axées sur l’expérience sensorielle de l’accalmie, la recherche d’intimité (entre soi, en territoire connu) et de liberté (être soi-même, en-dehors des contraintes et exigences diurnes).
