Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

As Optometry and Vision Science celebrates its centennial year, I am taking this month's editorial as an opportunity to recognize authors who have contributed in a significant way to shaping the journal's content and defining scholarship within our community. The table lists 104 individuals who rank among the top 100 contributors to the journal based on the total number of articles published. Where there were ties, authors share the same rank. I also added a few extra, all the way to 101 to include a few worthy contributors. It seemed right to have Westheimer and Ellerbrock included on this list. To build this summary table, I compiled the full list of authors from more than 10,000 individual articles published between 1926 and 2021. Once the full list of authors was assembled, the total number of articles published was counted and authors ranked by their totals. This list took some effort to compile, but it was a great way to look back and reflect on the many authors who have shaped our journal and vision science over the past 100 years. For members of the American Academy of Optometry, the full journal archive from 1926 to 2022 is available on the journal website: http://optvissci.com. - Author Publications (n) Author rank Affiliation Anthony Adams 118 1 UCB Lyndon Jones 78 2 UW (CA) Monroe Hirsch 76 3 UCB Glenn Fry 74 4 OSU David Atchison 71 5 QUT (AU) Michael Twa 71 5 UHCO Mark Bullimore 70 7 UHCO Brien Holden 69 8 UNSW (AU) Richard Hill 67 9 OSU Carel Koch 64 10 DeMars Optom College Michael Harris 62 11 UCB Karla Zadnik 60 12 OSU William F. Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
