Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

This chapter delineates the relationship between public and governmental perceptions of the problems and proposed solutions to the Middle East conflict. The most striking results, nation-wide, are the extremely high proportion of respondents with no opinion on Middle East issues and the relatively slow growth in support for the Arabs. The lack of general Arab cohesion, both in Canada and the Middle East, and the relatively high level of politicisation and strong rhetoric springing from the Middle East served to enhance North American perceptions of an unstable, volatile culture. Although the high proportion of uninformed or uninterested people is discouraging, some Canadians may feel that Canadian policies toward the Middle East are neither essential for the ‘national interest’ nor especially effective, given the duration and scope of the conflict. Canadians have been reluctant to grant the plo political legitimacy, although they have moved toward a realisation that the plo ought to be at any future bargaining table.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
