Abstract
Finalizada la Guerra Civil española, el paisaje en ruinas que presentaba el país exigía una eficaz reconstrucción, para lo que el Nuevo Régimen creó la Dirección General de Regiones Devastadas. Este organismo, que se ocupaba no sólo de realizar esta tarea, sino también de ejercer un férreo control sobre el total de las intervenciones reconstructoras, recuperó para materializar esta nueva imagen los historicismos, que permitían establecer lazos entre el momento político que se vivía y los períodos más florecientes del pasado nacional. Entre ellos, y para el caso de Asturias, se seleccionó el arte de la monarquía asturiana: el prerrománico asturiano. Este estilo permitía relacionar directamente la Reconquista llevada a cabo por los reyes asturianos con la empresa realizada por Franco, legitimándola. De esta manera, algunas de las obras intervenidas por la Dirección General de Regiones Devastadas, puede afirmarse que se han reconstruido en estilo neoprerrománico asturiano, mientras que, en otros casos, encontramos elementos propios de este estilo, descontextualizados, formando parte de edificios fruto de otro historicismo, regionalismo o de la arquitectura popular.
