Abstract
Le présent article a pour but d’explorer comment, à travers des époques différentes (1929-2009), la polyphonie, décrite initialement par Mikhaïl Bakhtine à l’aide de l’oeuvre de Dostoïevski, a évolué pour refléter une polyphonie plus contemporaine dans l’oeuvre de Marie-Claire Blais, plus précisément dans Naissance de Rebecca à l’ère des tourments, en devenant une polyphonie paradoxale où le foisonnement des voix ne conduit pas à la communication et où les multiples faits particuliers ne peuvent être isolés. Les deux approches, bien que différentes, mènent à un effet de globalité où la narration joue un rôle prépondérant et où les événements relatés ne signifient que s’ils sont pris dans leur ensemble.
