Abstract
La faillite de Kodak est généralement considérée comme un cas exemplaire de disruption. Notre objectif est de revenir sur cette thèse, qui est aujourd’hui très largement partagée par les chercheurs et le grand public. L’analyse systématique des données publiées sur l’entreprise entre septembre 2003 et janvier 2008 révèle que la théorie de la disruption n’explique pas complètement le déclin de Kodak. Notre étude met notamment en évidence le rôle joué par les actionnaires dans le refus du plan initial de développement dans le numérique. Ces résultats montrent l’effet de l’activisme actionnarial sur les stratégies d’innovation de rupture. Ils permettent également de discuter des risques de biais de circularité dans l’utilisation de cas d’école pour illustrer des approches théoriques.
