Abstract
My father, Giuseppe Tomasicchio, was one of the many Italian-Canadians unjustly arrested in Toronto during the Second World War.On the morning of June 10, 1940, two Mounties entered my family's linen supply store.My father greeted the officers cordially, and they told him that he was under arrest.When my father asked what the charges against him were, the Mounties told him to "Ask Mussolini!"Now, my mother and father were never Fascists, but, like many Italian-Canadians at the time, they did go to the Dopolavoro for social events.This was all well before Mussolini's declaration of war.My parents even took me to the club once, when I was two years old.They sat me on the table and I entertained their friends by imitating Mussolini's scowl.My father was imprisoned
