Abstract
Undeniably, the field of Italian Canadian Studies is facing the challenges of the new millennium.The investigation of the Italian experience in Canada now demands the recognition and consequent reflection on new forms of cultural expression and representation which have come to the forefront in recent times.Many scholars feel the need to address the integration of the large and fundamental corpus of studies produced over the last forty years in conjunction with the reality of the Italian Canadian cultural presence of the 21st century.From its beginnings, research concerned with the Italian presence in Canada was for the most part outlined by two major traditional disciplines: social history and literary studies.Significant studies were also produced in the realms of anthropology, sociology and linguistics.Especially with the introduction of Multiculturalism policies in the 1970s and consequent creation of new academic institutes -such as the Multicultural History Society of Ontario-the general intellectual climate allowed researchers in "ethnic studies" to outline the main historical,
