Bookshows how the oceanic voyage matches "Lucy's liminality qua a semiotic function of the bridge between two cultures" (115).In an oblique way, this chapter offers many tips on how to teach Nuovomondo as a parable of the arrival of Italian immigrants vis-à-vis The Godfather as "an Italian immigrant's family's 'American' story" (82).In Chapter 5, Tamburri discusses three short films from the 1990s and 2000s in order to show that these directors have "avoided at all costs falling victim to the shackles of both a thematic and formalistic tradition, appropriating, as we have now seen, a more liberating and expansive discourse" (148).This discourse reinforces Tamburri's appeal to the Italian/ American community to "re-visit our history" (151) now.
