Abstract
Why do I write?Who is the self that writes?To explore these questions I turn to my creative journey and examine aspects of my creative process and its sometimes-tortured relationship to my life.Any interrogation of the creative self is not an easy one but serves as a scrutiny of the relationship between personal freedom and creativity and the struggle to harmonize this convergence within the context of a writing life.My life journey, interweaving themes of gender, culture and identity, cannot be understood or reconciled without the healing balm of my writing, which recapitulates the events recorded by my psyche in order to make sense of my lived experience.
