Abstract
Many years ago, Carmen Ziolkowski and I were basking in the sun on a beach in Corfu.As always, her nimble fingers were busy creating needlework images from her fertile imagination.Surprising us, a young boy stopped for long minutes to admire her handiwork.Lack of the Greek language was no barrier as he exclaimed his admiration for her images of exotic birds, colourful animals, cottages, flowers, and appealing children.The pictures speak for themselves.Small wonder that she won first prize for original artwork in a show at the local library a few years ago.Many of her friends and relatives have framed samples of her art, incorporating words of their own choosing, from proverbs to haiku.But it's for her writing that Carmen is best known.Her poetry books, Roses Bloom at Dusk and World of Dreams sold out quickly, along with her novel The House of Four Winds, a story set in her homeland of Italy.Her short stories have been published here and abroad, as well as
