Abstract
Rare genetic diseases and congenital malformations are the leading cause of infant mortality in Canada. An early diagnosis for a newborn with a rare genetic is crucial, as it can modify the patient management and thus improve their quality of life. Rapid whole genome sequencing (rWGS) is a technique that is gaining attention for two main reasons: i) it enables the possibility to diagnose a patient in less than 14 days; and ii) it allows to detect many variant types with only one assay, including single nucleotide variants (SNV), small insertions and deletions (INDEL), copy number variants (CNV), structural variants (SV) and others.
