Abstract
Nos últimos anos, além de ser utilizada como referência nas lutas de movimentos camponeses do Hemisfério Sul – característica central de sua ‘primeira geração’ – a soberania alimentar (SA) também tem sido incorporada em contextos urbanos do Hemisfério Norte, o que demarca sua ‘segunda geração’. Reconhecendo que ainda existe uma lacuna de estudos que abordem esse processo no contexto canadense, o presente trabalho tem como objetivo discutir a ‘segunda geração’ da SA em duas cidades do Oeste do Canadá: Vancouver, na Colúmbia Britânica e Calgary, em Alberta. Para essa análise, empregamos metodologias qualitativas de natureza exploratória para compreender como a SA pode ser abordada em contextos urbanos do Canadá a partir das práticas dos ativistas alimentares urbanos. Constatamos que no contexto urbano do Oeste canadense, a SA pode ser compreendida por meio de uma perspectiva ampla, se relacionando às diversas etapas dos sistemas agroalimentares.
