Abstract
L’aide médicale à mourir (AMM) n’est pas accessible, à ce jour, aux personnes inaptes à consentir à la suite d’un trouble neurocognitif majeur qui l’auraient demandée de façon anticipée. Un questionnaire destiné aux travailleurs sociaux a été conçu pour évaluer l’acceptabilité d’étendre l’AMM à cette population. Une analyse quantitative des réponses, déjà publiée (Bravo et al., 2022) montre que la majorité des travailleurs sociaux appuie l’idée de donner aux personnes inaptes accès à l’AMM. Le présent article rapporte les résultats d’une analyse qualitative des commentaires laissés par les répondants à la fin du questionnaire, à travers lesquels ils expriment des préoccupations. Des 367 questionnaires retournés, 162 incluent des commentaires. Les principales préoccupations soulevées ont trait aux difficultés d’application des demandes anticipées, au risque d’abus et à l’incapacité du système de santé de répondre aux besoins des personnes qui vivent avec un trouble neurocognitif majeur. Advenant la légalisation des demandes anticipées d’AMM, les travailleurs sociaux souhaitent être impliqués dans le processus, être formés et être soutenus dans leurs démarches.
