Abstract
The current issue of East/West: Journal of Ukrainian Studies appears when Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine enters its second year.This genocidal war is accompanied by Russian propaganda aimed to justify the invasion.As a scholarly venue for up-to-date research regarding Ukraine, EWJUS's publications contribute to countering Russia's disinformation campaign.The current issue opens with a special thematic section that features one research article and one scholarly report dedicated to Ukrainian community centres and archives in Australia and Canada.Four regular articles that follow address a variety of topics: (i) media systems in the so-called "Donetsk People's Republic" and "Luhansk People's Republic"; (ii) Soviet special operations in the Axis occupied territories of Ukraine between 1943 and 1944; (iii) Mykola Lukash's translations as a tool to resist Russification in Soviet Ukraine; and (iv) medieval liturgical translations in Ukraine and Poland.A review essay and several book reviews that appraise recent works in Ukrainian studies complete the issue.Future publications of EWJUS will include two special thematic issues: one dedicated to the environmental humanities in Ukrainian studies and another that focuses on Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia (a companion to previously published thematic issues on Ukraine's major cities-Kharkiv and Odesa).This is the third year of EWJUS's English-Ukrainian translation initiative.Articles in EWJUS are translated into Ukrainian by senior graduate students in the MA Translation program at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.The project is headed on the Ukrainian side by Prof. Lada Kolomiyets and Dr. Olena Pidhrushna.I am so grateful to the supervisors and student translators who continued to work on this project during Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine!Nine articles from volumes 8.2 (fall 2021) and 9.1 (spring 2022) have been published in Ukrainian translation this year; they are featured in a separate section on the EWJUS website.Translations from this year and last year are also accessible alongside the original articles in the table of contents of the relevant volume.Altogether, seventeen articles (from vols.7-9) are now featured in Ukrainian translation on the EWJUS website, making EWJUS publications available to readers in Ukraine.
