Cet ouvrage étudie le dynamisme du français contemporain, ses pratiques et ses usages en francophonie et son effet sur les systèmes scolaires en contextes multilingues et multiculturels. La réflexion sur la variation et la norme concerne l’Afrique subsaharienne mais également le Canada, la Suisse, le Maghreb, Haïti, autant de points de comparaison en regard du contexte africain. Les seize contributions répondent aux questions ci-après : la langue française devient-elle polynomique ou toujours mono-normée ? Comment l’école traite-t-elle de la variation ? Les approches privilégiées sont adaptées à l’analyse de pratiques fortement ancrées dans des contextes spécifiques et qui inscrivent globalement leur objet dans l’optique d’une linguistique du développement, c’est-à-dire une linguistique qui se met au service de la cause sociale ou éducative. Les contributions sont organisées en trois parties : Expansion des normes endogènes et variation du français en francophonie envisage la variation et le rapport à la norme du point de vue linguistique et sociolinguistique. Expansion des normes endogènes et institutions scolaires en francophonie traite de la question du rapport de l’école, lieu normatif par excellence, à la variation. Expansion des normes endogènes du français et expressions culturelles et médiatiques étudient les usages sociaux du français dans des lieux ou des canaux qui ont une force de légitimation : médias, réseaux sociaux, chanson et littérature.
