Abstract
Cet article s’intéresse à la construction de l’ ethos , tout à la fois féminin et royal, du personnage éponyme dans la tragédie Laodamie, reine d’Épire de Catherine Bernard, créée en 1689 à la Comédie-Française, de même qu’à la tension générée par le conflit entre cet ethos et le pathos. Si ce pathos perturbe la « tranquillité » de la reine tout au long de l’action dramatique, celle-ci n’en parvient pas moins à le tenir en bride – mais au prix d’un immense effort – au profit de la raison, qui lui dicte de contrôler des passions qui entrent en contradiction avec les exigences de sa fonction.
