Abstract
Dilthey a cherché à montrer la singularité du monde socio-historique et de sa connaissance par rapport aux procédures des sciences de la nature. Si l’entrecroisement des différentes dimensions de ce monde dans la vie d’un individu justifie l’attention accordée en général à la biographie, Dilthey insiste par ailleurs sur le fait que la connaissance d’un sujet individuel ou collectif ne nous est donnée que dans la mesure où l’on considère la manière dont il s’est déployé au cours de son histoire ; l’être de tout individu est ainsi lui-même essentiellement socio-historique, et c’est sur cet arrière-plan que doit être entendue la thèse selon laquelle le fondement des sciences humaines et sociales est d’ordre « psychologique ». C’est, par ailleurs, dans la mesure où les phénomènes du monde socio-historique sont signifiants et où ces significations sont l’expression de relations de forces que leur connaissance par les sciences humaines et sociales relève d’une herméneutique.
