Este capítulo presenta los avances del proyecto Programa de Educación Financiera para el Fomento y Desarrollo Empresarial de la Mujer Rural de Neiva. Fue desarrollado por el grupo de investigación Cananguchales, con el objetivo de diseñar un programa de educación financiera con base en variables sociodemográficas de las mujeres rurales, así como variables de ahorro, inversión y endeudamiento que permitan el fortalecimiento de la educación financiera reconociendo la importancia de esta, para el desarrollo y crecimiento económico de la empresa y la región. La investigación se desarrolla bajo el enfoque cuantitativo, de tipo descriptivo donde se utiliza la técnica de la encuesta mediante instrumento tipo cuestionario con preguntas cerradas. La investigación se encuentra en la primera fase, sobre la importancia de la educación financiera para el desarrollo empresarial de la mujer rural, la cual se presenta en este texto y se desarrolló a través de la revisión documental y teórica en diferentes bases de datos, frente a la contextualización de la educación financiera a nivel internacional, nacional y regional, profundizando en el concepto, las características, ventajas y aspectos que se deben tener en cuenta, así como las estadísticas o investigaciones que sustentan mediciones o situaciones referente a educación financiera, como por ejemplo, los estudios, análisis o aportes del Banco Mundial, la superintendencia financiera y la Organización para la Cooperación y el Desarrollo Económico (OCDE), entre otros. Por lo anterior, la importancia de la educación financiera parte de la formación como un aspecto esencial que se debe orientar desde la primera y en todos los niveles, para que el aprendizaje sea permanente y en escenarios prácticos que permita a todos los ciudadanos, fortalecer el conocimiento financiero y las herramientas de información financiera. Finalmente, la educación financiera para el desarrollo empresarial de la mujer rural se sustenta desde la toma de decisión en variables de ahorro, inversión y endeudamiento que consolidan las estrategias financieras a nivel empresarial.
