Cet article aborde, par une étude de cas du musée ethnologique de Salagon situé à Mane (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), le cadre juridique de la collecte et la diffusion d’archives orales par une institution culturelle qui a pour objectifs la conservation et la diffusion des savoirs locaux. Il présente les réflexions et conclusions tirées de l’expérience des deux autrices, archivistes au sein d’un musée collecteur d’une mémoire orale, le musée de Salagon. Elles ont fait des observations sur le travail fait et à faire pour un meilleur respect des obligations juridiques et éthiques dans la collecte de témoignages oraux, en travaillant à une réorganisation des fonds et au traitement de nouveaux corpus. Cette étude de cas revient ainsi sur l’histoire des contrats et de l’archivage au musée de Salagon. La collaboration entre la direction du musée et la phonothèque de la Maison méditerranéenne des Sciences de l’Homme, dès les années 1990, a été déterminante. Ce travail éclaire le rôle de l’archiviste dans la sensibilisation des acteurs de collectes d’archives sonores aux bonnes pratiques, et propose en annexe un guide de l’enquêteur.
