Abstract
Estudos de patogenicidade relacionados à fitonematoides, na sua grande maioria, relacionam uma única espécie de nematoide em uma planta hospedeira. Devese dar importância ao fato de que, em ambientes naturais ou sistemas agrícolas, os nematoides ocorrem em comunidades poli-específicas. A predominância de uma espécie de nematoide no meio está relacionada aos fatores edafoclimáticos, à interação com o ambiente e à interação com outros organismos, incluindo outros nematoides. Duas espécies de nematoides podem coabitar o mesmo nicho ecológico ocorrendo uma competição entre os indivíduos, que podem resultar em interações benéficas ou prejudiciais para uma ou ambas as espécies. A competição é mais severa quando espécies possuem hábitos alimentares semelhantes e à medida que a relação parasito-hospedeiro se torna mais complexa, há um aumento na vantagem competitiva. Estudos de levantamentos de fitonematoides demonstram muitas espécies associadas a culturas perenes e anuais coabitando o sistema radicular. Entender a relação da abundância e diversidade da nematofauna, bem como interações das espécies em danos causados às plantas hospedeiras são de grande valia para a adoção de medidas de manejo de fitonematoides.
