Abstract
Over the past decades the author have conducted research on the political mobilizations of non-status refugees and migrants, specifically campaigns against deportation and detention, and for regularization and freedom of movement. His research on anti-deportation has aimed to make both an empirical and theoretical contribution. In this chapter, the author wishes to elaborate on socialization as a method. His interest in the rights of refugees and migrants is not just academic, but connected to his family's history of forced displacement as well as his own political commitments. Thus, the first socialization came from his involvement in the refugee and migrant rights movement in Canada, especially with groups working with non-status refugees and migrants. The socialization of non-status refugee and migrant rights movements has been crucial to understanding how anti-deportation is a site for investigating shifts in the field of security and enactments of non-citizen political subjectivity.
