Abstract
L’Acadie ne possède pas d’État propre, mais elle occupe des territoires. Pendant près de deux siècles, de la seconde moitié du 18e siècle aux années 1930, des centaines de localités acadiennes ont été établies dans les provinces maritimes et tout particulièrement au Nouveau-Brunswick. Ces localités ont historiquement délimité les frontières de la communauté ethnolinguistique acadienne et se sont explicitement inscrites dans le projet nationaliste de la seconde moitié du 19e siècle. Or, à partir des années 1950, le modèle territorial acadien est entré en crise et on a assisté à une désinstitutionnalisation des communautés. Cet article porte sur les transformations de l’ancrage territorial en retraçant la dynamique de peuplement et en interrogeant la persistance de frontières locales dans un contexte où elles ne renvoient plus à des communautés vivantes. Pour ce faire, nous proposons une lecture critique du patrimoine local à partir d’une analyse des monographies paroissiales et de la morphologie des communautés.
