La question de la participation des femmes au marché du travail est à l’intersection de plusieurs luttes sociales, telles que l’égalité des sexes, la lutte contre la pauvreté et l’intérêt des enfants. Au cours des 30 dernières années, une attitude plus interventionniste des pays de l’OCDE a permis de réduire le différentiel entre les taux d’activité des hommes et des femmes. Dans plusieurs de ces pays, cette intégration des femmes sur le marché de l’emploi reste néanmoins précaire s’agissant de leur accès à des postes de direction. Qu’en est-il au Canada ? Au Québec, comme dans le reste du Canada, l’écart subsistant entre les hommes et les femmes découle dans une grande mesure des choix et préférences personnels des femmes, dont les objectifs de vie semblent plus variés, moins axés sur le plan professionnel, que ceux des hommes.
