Le 25 juillet 1683, Guillaume-Joseph Lemaire est mis en apprentissage pour quatre ans chez le graveur Pierre Lochon, moyennant 200 livres. Le 29 octobre 1684, toutefois, il en est retiré – certainement pour des raisons familiales après le décès de sa mère.
