Abstract
À l’anthropocentrisme et au dualisme épistémologique propre au sujet cartésien et moderne, le néo-matérialisme oppose une ontologie relationnelle caractérisée par des agencements où l’ensemble des objets – des « actants » – s’affectent mutuellement et produisent ainsi de concert un environnement dynamique. L’étude critique de ce courant théorique révèle un accord profond avec la pensée des systèmes. Le néo-matérialisme s’appuie en effet sur une critique de la représentation qui résonne fortement avec l’idéologie associée aux technologies de l’information et de la communication issues de la cybernétique. De même, le modèle sociétal qu’on peut tirer du néo-matérialisme s’accorde avec celui qu’on peut associer au marché néolibéral, « l’enchantement » que suscite censément une matière investie d’une dynamique vitaliste consacrant en réalité la mise en marchandise de tout l’être. En nous inspirant notamment du travail de Michel Freitag, nous démontrons que le néo-matérialisme constitue un exemple parfait de l’extension du monisme opérationnel en sciences humaines, à mesure que la production de la connaissance s’arrime au problem solving indissociable de la gestion technocratique du social.
