Para pensarmos a educação, a democracia e a justiça social dentro do contexto global, é de fundamental importância estudarmos e analisarmos a racionalidade formada pelo sistema econômico e político que chamamos neoliberalismo. Esse sistema ideológico neoliberal, gestado a partir da segunda metade do século XX, exerceu e exerce uma influência considerável em nossos sistemas de governos democráticos, representando fortes ameaças à educação e à justiça social, na medida em que apela exclusivamente à dimensão econômica para explicar a melhoria das condições individuais e sociais de vida. O presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar criticamente a teoria neoliberal proposta por Ludwig von Mises como um modelo reducionista dos conceitos de ação humana, liberdade e de Estado. Buscamos caracterizar essa teoria como uma ideologia de um novo liberalismo já desenhada no início do século XX, ancorada nos conceitos de livre mercado, culminando na formação do homo agens, o “empreendedorismo” do sistema capitalista. A metodologia adotada é de natureza crítico-interpretativa, desenvolvendo uma análise ao modelo neoliberal do autor austríaco-americano, tendo por base autores como Hannah Arendt (1999, 2013), Pierre Dardot e Christian Laval (2016), Wendy Brown (2019), e respaldada em teorias da justiça contemporânea como a do autor americano John Rawls (2011, 2016). Além da crítica, são propostas ao longo do texto, mas principalmente na terceira parte e na conclusão, algumas perspectivas para superar o modelo de Estado neoliberal estabelecido e vigente nos cenários econômicos e políticos dos países.
