Abstract
In recent years, the publication of a great number of books by Italian Canadian authors have taken literary circles by surprise and put Italian Canadian writing on the literary map.However, before this literary spring, before World War II and even before the Great War, Italians in Canada had written and published works some of which deserve to be brought to our attention and examined in the light of the new Italian Canadian consciousness.One such work is Emigranti: quattro anni al Canada, by Anna Moroni Parken, which was published in Milan, Italy, at the the turn of the century.'Emigranti (as I shall refer to it) is a novel about the experience of an Italian family, the Moronis, on a farming frontier in Canada, late in the nineteenth century.This novel shares
