La rivalité mondiale entre la Chine et les États-Unis se décline en grande partie dans le champ technologique. L’essor des capacités chinoises en Recherche et Développement a permis, dans certains domaines, un rattrapage voire un dépassement des technologies américaines. La masse de l’économie chinoise lui octroie de ce point de vue un avantage comparatif certain. Les effets d’intégration économique produits par les technologies de pointe constituent un enjeu géopolitique majeur, en poussant toujours davantage les pays tiers à s’aligner sur l’une ou l’autre de ces deux puissances numériques.
