Le contexte pandémique a exacerbé les difficultés comportementales des élèves. À ce sujet, l’Institut National de Santé Publique du Québec (INSPQ, 2021) a montré des effets négatifs de la pandémie sur le développement des enfants de 2 à 12 ans. L’INSPQ (2021) a recensé 14 études, provenant de divers pays, ayant examiné le domaine du développement social et affectif, principalement en ce qui concerne les problèmes de comportements internalisés et externalisés. Dans ces études, les problèmes de comportements internalisés réfèrent aux difficultés émotionnelles comme la dépression, l’anxiété, etc. Les comportements externalisés sont associés aux problèmes de conduite, à l’irritabilité et la mauvaise humeur, à l’hyperactivité/l’inattention, aux problèmes relationnels avec les pairs, à la manifestation d’agressivité ou à un trouble de l’opposition. L’INSPQ (2021) indique « [qu’] une majorité d’études rapportent une augmentation significative des problèmes de comportements internalisés et externalisés, comparativement à la période prépandémique, » (p. 5).
