Socialisation et emplois salariés : une ethnographie des femmes Inuit d’Igloolik

Abstract
À partir du paradigme ternaire des catégories sociales de sexe élaboré par Bernard Saladin d’Anglure (1985, 1986), je m’intéresse à savoir si, dans la société inuit contemporaine, les pratiques de socialisation des enfants dans un sexe social différent de leur sexe biologique exercent une influence sur la place des femmes sur le marché de l’emploi salarié formel. À partir d’un corpus de 38 entrevues, je présente cinq études de cas qui décrivent l’histoire de vie des « femmes changées » – socialisées comme des garçons – et des « femmes-femmes » socialisées comme des filles. J’établis des comparaisons entre ces deux catégories, notamment leur capacité à verbaliser leurs différentes expériences de vie. Mon hypothèse est que le franchissement de la frontière des sexes sociaux, et plus particulièrement la douloureuse expérience du retour à un sexe social conforme au sexe biologique de l’enfant à la puberté, facilite le franchissement de la frontière des cultures, soit ici l’insertion dans un milieu de travail étranger à la culture inuit.
