Abstract
This article investigates the rise and strengthening of Amhara nationalism in Ethiopia through land claims that emerged in 2016. It describes the consequences of Amhara irredentism in the Tigray war, between 2020 and 2022. Based on ethnographic surveys conducted in and around Wolqayt, Ethiopia’s northwesternmost zone, it proposes a sociology of a movement that has become central to Ethiopian politics since 2016, showing on which social groups and political dynamics nationalism and irredentism are based. By documenting administrative practices in Wolqayt after its conquest by Amhara forces during the first months of the civil war, the article shows how nationalist mobilisation reproduces the practices of the party-state built by the former regime led by the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), with an even greater level of violence and dispossession. This situation gives rise to the mobilisation of new identity categories by citizens critical of the new nationalist administration.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
