Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

This chapter investigates the scenes of the stories we still don’t tell to children about sexuality—but which we nonetheless reveal to them. It explores cultural addresses to children that amount to forms of sexuality that exceed the content of cultural texts, which the chapter explores according to Jean Laplanche’s idea of the “enigmatic signifier.” I suggest in this chapter that while Laplanche’s theory offers us both a theory of addressing childhood and a theory of understanding the temporal unfolding of sexuality, it is crucially also a theory of the dominant frames of adulthood and of a multidimensional understanding of the unconscious. His understanding of sexuality’s origins through the concept of the “foreign body” thus forces us to grapple with the ways adult-child relations are not just intersubjective, but saturated by concepts that are themselves intersectional, global, and racialized.

Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
