FABRIZIO GHILARDI1.Nel momento della dichiarazione di guerra (10 giugno 1940), Italia e Canada non avevano rapporti diplomatici diretti.In Canada c'erano soltanto uffici consolari italiani ad Ottawa, dove risiedeva il Console Generale, e a Montreal; un vice consolato era a Toronto e vice consolati di seconda categoria a Vancouver e a Winnipeg, tutti formalmente dipendenti dall' Ambasciata italiana in Inghilterra; mentre a Roma, invece, a "rappresentare" il Canada, c'era soltanto un Commissario commerciale (Trade Commissioner).
