VISELLI Nè più toccherò le sacre sponde ove il mio corpo fanciulletto giacque Zacinto mia. ...Voler dedicare un poema al paese che rappresenta l'anima e il corpo di una certa percezione della vita non è certo un fenomemo nuovo.L'esempio del Foscolo è uno tra tanti che ritorna alla mia mente soffusa di ricordi d'infanzia quando, sui banchi di scuola, mi eccitavo all'eco della storia del Risorgimento o al canto di poeti "maledetti" condannati all'esilio.Codesti cantavano sovente una patria lontana, svanita o trasformata, talvolta sepolta nei 'sepolcri' simbolici di un sistema politico incoerente, di una situazione economica e sociale abietta, di un'incomprensione perenne della storia e del desiderio continuo di cambiare.Certamente 'L'emigrato' o'l'esiliato' è un simbolo, direi quasi una figura retorica che racimola nella sua immagine poetica, una profondità psicologica inconfutabile, una complessità labirintica ed una sete morosa di giustizia e d'amore; tutto ciò sorpassa evidentemente il gioco sociale, politico o economico del come, del quando e del perché della partenza senza ritorno.Questi fattori hanno il loro posto e la loro ineluttabile importanza nello studio dell'universo italo canadese, benché non siano 1 soli ed essenziali elementi che rendono conto della realtà dell'emigrante in generale e del poeta in particolare.Il nostro studio non sarà pertanto fondato su un'inchiesta socio-politica; il nostro scopo sarà piuttosto di ritrovare certi segni letterari dei nostri poeti per cui = 123 =
