Abstract
À 3,5 km au nord-ouest de Sées, chef-lieu de cité des Sagii , le sanctuaire des Hernies a fait l’objet d’une fouille programmée de 2005 à 2007. Une première phase d’occupation, datable du début de la période augustéenne, est matérialisée par un simple bâtiment quadrangulaire doté d’un foyer central associé à une construction à plan centré. La phase monumentale d’aménagement intervient sous les règnes de Caligula ou Claude, avec la construction d’un second bâtiment carré entouré d’une galerie et de neuf édicules carrés placés dans plusieurs cours circonscrites par un péribole maçonné. Les pratiques cérémonielles consistent en sacrifices d’animaux et dépôts d’offrandes : monnaies, éléments de parures, statuettes en terre cuite, céramiques et objets domestiques. Dans la seconde moitié du iii e siècle, le démantèlement partiel des structures est perceptible. Un réaménagement d’une partie du site intervient au début du iv e siècle avec la réutilisation de plusieurs édicules, l’édification de cabanes et la construction d’un nouvel édifice.
