Si le cours de philosophie collégiale – premier cycle de l’enseignement supérieur – au Québec (Canada) se veut avant tout un espace favorisant les échanges et le dialogue, on peut se demander s’il est marqué par des processus de polarisation des débats à l’image de ceux traversant plus largement la société québécoise et canadienne, comme d’autres contextes, autour de sujets sensibles. Lorsqu’elle surgit, une telle rupture du dialogue ne garantit pas les conditions nécessaires pour des échanges véritables. Cet article propose ainsi d’explorer comment des enseignant×e×s du cours de philosophie s’adaptent à de telles situations lorsqu’elles se présentent, et ce, dans un contexte où la question religieuse fait souvent l’objet de réactions épidermiques. Après avoir mis en exergue leurs conceptions de l’enseignement de la philosophie, les auteur×e×s explorent plus spécifiquement les manières dont les enseignant·e·s définissent une situation problématique en classe et la place que l’objet religieux est susceptible d’y occuper, aussi bien comme sujet de discussion que comme conviction individuelle. La contribution analyse aussi les repères qu’elles et ils mobilisent pour développer chez leurs étudiant×e×s une posture critique à l’égard de leurs convictions (religieuses ou autres).
