Abstract
Les années 1930 constituent une période problématique de l’histoire du roman, en raison notamment de la migration d’intérêts sociopolitiques dans l’espace de la fiction, mettant un terme aux expérimentations formelles de la décennie précédente. Nous explorons deux des traits proposés par les historiens de la littérature depuis l’entre-deux-guerres pour caractériser le roman des années 1930 : le retour à une forme de classicisme et la dimension idéologique des oeuvres. En confrontant leur récit à la critique des auteurs de la période, plusieurs questions se posent mais une certitude se dégage : l’histoire du roman ne peut s’en tenir à l’étude du roman. Ainsi envisageons-nous le roman en tant que discours qu’il convient de lire comme une manifestation de son époque, c’est-à-dire tributaire et contributeur du discours social.
