Nous nous intéressons à « La colonie distractionnaire », texte publié par Philippe Muray en mars 1992 dans le journal pamphlétaire L’Idiot international, à propos de l’ouverture d’Euro Disneyland. Dans ce texte satirique, l’essayiste fait du parc d’attractions un révélateur de la métamorphose de la société française sous l’effet de l’avènement de la société du loisir. Au-delà du constat économique, c’est tout l’imaginaire social contemporain qui se trouve interrogé, dans la réappropriation inventive et comique de la langue du jour. Désolant « non-lieu » faisant triompher le kitsch et un moralisme suspect, instrument d’un bonheur frelaté qui détruit les capacités critiques de l’être humain, Euro Disneyland opère aussi un transfert de sacralité autour de l’impératif du loisir et se présente comme une réinvention étrange de l’utopie entée sur l’idée de progrès. Nous proposons d’appliquer les propositions herméneutiques de Claude Duchet au genre de l’essai satirique, en étant attentive à la façon dont celui-ci reprend et transforme le vocabulaire de l’époque afin d’affronter les représentations collectives.
