Kota Medan merupakan pintu gerbang wilayah Indonesia bagian barat dengan keberadaan Pelabuhan Belawan, sehingga perdagangan, industri dan bisnis yang sangat penting. Medan Marelan mulai berkembang menjadi sebuah kota, membuat aktifitas masyarakatnya menjadi padat. Padatnya aktifitas masyarakat menyebabkan seseorang menjadi lebih cepat letih, jenuh, dan stress mengakibatkan keinginan seseorang terhadap sarana rekreasi, pusat hiburan, pusat kesehatan, dan pusat olahraga menjadi tinggi. Dalam hal seperti inilah dibutuhkan suatu sarana untuk menyegarkan kembali jiwa dan raga mereka. Rekreasi merupakan salah satu pilihan tepat, Rekreasi juga telah menjadi bagian hidup dari masyarakat Kec Medan Marelan. Namun rekreasi di Medan Marelan didominasi oleh pusat berbelanja sehingga masyarakat lebih menghabiskan akhir pekan di pusat berbelanja. Hal ini diakibatkan oleh belum adanya tempat rekreasi liburan keluarga berbasis wisata alam dan resort di Kec Medan Marelan. Perlu adanya wadah yang tidak hanya menawarkan penginapan sementara namun dapat sekaligus memberikan fasilitas yang bertema alam agar semakin menarik wisatawan untuk dating. Maka dirancanglah Resort Danau Siombak. Resort ini bertujuan untuk menciptakan ruang lingkup hiburan yang baru bagi sarana rekreasi keluarga, menyangkut pada aspek edukasi, desain, keasrian alam, dan estetika bangunan mengikuti tema bangunan tropis.
