Abstract
Notre article entend montrer comment la participation aux différentes coalitions gouvernementales et la pratique du pouvoir ont poussé les islamistes algériens du Mouvement de la société pour la paix (MSP) à faire évoluer leur utopie religieuse en programme politique consensuel 1 . Comment ce changement qui s’étale sur près de cinq décennies s’est-il opéré ? Pour y répondre, nous ambitionnons de rendre compte des transformations idéologiques et programmatiques profondes de ce parti. Nous défendons l’idée selon laquelle l’inflexion politique du MSP est moins le résultat d’un changement propre au parti que de contingences politiques externes. En d’autres termes, la participation au pouvoir a incité le MSP à « diluer » la charge utopique de son discours pour intégrer les instances du pouvoir et s’y maintenir. Les impératifs liés à la conservation du pouvoir ont contraint le parti à créer des alliances avec des organisations partisanes non islamistes et à faire des concessions qui ont modifié ses idéaux de départ.
