Abstract
Rare diseases are challenging to treat due to limited and at times conflicting evidence.To begin with, the clinical definition of a rare disease is inconsistent, with varying arbitrary incidence thresholds across countries.In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration classifies a disease as rare if its prevalence is less than 1 in 200 000.While individually rare, there are approximately 7000 rare diseases affecting more than 30 million people in the United States.Despite these staggering numbers and the substantial impact on the quality of life of patients and their families, conducting research and treating rare diseases pose significant challenges that need to be urgently addressed.
