Abstract
Voici une synthèse de vingt ans de recherches que nous avons menées en éducation muséale sur le fonctionnement psychologique des visiteurs adultes explorant des œuvres d’art contemporain. La détermination des dissonances et consonances exprimées par les visiteurs a permis de saisir, entre autres, les foyers d’attention ainsi que certaines des opérations mentales contribuant à une expérience esthétique transformatrice. Cet article présente les facteurs qui favorisent la relation que le participant-visiteur entretient avec l’art contemporain, celle où l’adulte est amené à considérer les plaisirs de l’ambiguïté et à apprécier les nouvelles expériences suscitées par les œuvres exposées dans un musée.
