Abstract
Fonctionnaire à l’Office du tourisme et de la publicité du Québec (1928-1948) pour lequel il travaille notamment comme guide touristique, Herménégilde Lavoie tourne et présente ses premiers films en amateur et comme conférencier invité avant de fonder sa compagnie de films, Les Documentaires Lavoie (1948-1962). Dans cette contribution, je voudrais montrer qu’Herménégilde Lavoie est un amoureux de la province québécoise, dont il tente de mettre en valeur les nombreux atouts et attraits (patrimoine architectural, paysages, modes de vie, industries, artisanat, histoire, etc.) à partir d’un ensemble de médias (films de commande ou films personnels, conférences, revue, photographies). Pour ce faire, j’ai travaillé à partir des archives du cinéaste conservées au Centre d’archives de Québec de la Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ).
