Abstract
Cet article traite du continentalisme comme idée dominante en politique étrangère canadienne (PEC) et de la place qu'il occupe dans certaines sphères de la PEC depuis l'arrivée au pouvoir du gouvernement Harper en janvier 2006.Nous proposons tout d'abord une brève définition de ce qu'est le continentalisme en PEC.Dans un deuxième temps, l'élaboration et la mise en pratique de la PEC depuis 2006 seront analysées en deux axes distincts.Le premier axe d'analyse portera sur le déploiement de l'action du gouvernement Harper en termes de commerce international.Ensuite, nous nous attarderons sur la vision qu'a le gouvernement Harper de la défense du territoire canadien et sur les moyens qu'il prend pour articuler concrètement sa vision.Cet article ne cherche pas à dresser un bilan des actions du gouvernement Harper en termes de politique étrangère, mais plutôt à tenter de dresser un portrait général de la PEC actuelle et de voir comment elle se lie au concept de continentalisme.
