Abstract
The first choice of a Disney challenger would have been Wolfgang Kaskeline, but Ufa had renounced his services. In March 1940, after a nonpublic screening of Disney’s Snow White in the cinema of the Propaganda Ministry in Jagerstrasse, Kurt Stordel received an offer from UFA to join their newly established trick film studio. Werner Kruse had successfully studied Disney’s early “rubber hose and circle” formula style, as practiced in the basic creation of the Mickey Mouse to design and build cartoon characters. The Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda ordered several research groups to collect information about Walt Disney and his working methods. When Hitler seized Paris in the fall of 1940, Wally took all the Disney film prints and buried them to keep them out of Nazi hands. According to Feignoux, Disney had been prepared to hire Salvagnac a few months ago and bring him to America.
