Abstract
Yüzüncüyıl Üniversitesi Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi, Tarih Bölümü öğretim elemanlarından Murat Ağarı'nın İsIam Coğrafyacılığı ve Müslüman Coğrafyacıar -Doğuşu Gelişimi ve Temsilcileri- adlı eseri, yazarın 2000 yılında hazırlamış olduğu "Tarih Coğrafyacılığı Doğuşu ve Gelişimi (III, 610/1000)" adlı doktora tezinin geliştirilerek kitaplaşmış halidir. Kitap giriş ve dört bölümden oluşmaktadır, Yazar kitabın önsözünde İslam dönemine gelinceye kadar geçmiş milletlerin oluşturduğu bir bilgi birikimini söz konusu ederek bu birikimin üzerinde çalışılması gereken bir miras olarak değerlendirir.(s, XIIXIV) Bu mirasın oluşumunun ise görsel ürünlere dayanmakla birlikte içeriğinde düşünce mahsulü bir takım unsurların bulunduğunun dikkate alınması gerektiği üzerinde duran yazar, kitabın giriş kısmında tarihi coğrafya denildiği zaman geçmişten günümüze bir ilerlemenin olduğundan bahsederek tarih ve coğrafyanın kesişme noktasında bulunan tarihi coğrafya kavramını açıklarken konuyla ilgili tanımlar üzerinde durmuştur. Tarih ve coğrafya kelimelerine yüklenen tanımları, her ikisinin konularını ve sınırlarını, ilişkili oldukları yan alanları vererek konunun anlaşılması için ihtiyaç duyulan temel kavramlar tafsilatlı bir şekilde açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır.
