Abstract
The most effective and useful books for teachers contain practical approaches that are grounded both in classroom experience and in pedagogical theory and/or research. Stages: Creative Ideas for Teaching Drama is mostly a ‘how-to book for introductory drama classes, and in that role it succeeds. In her brief introduction, Pura states that the idea of the book came from a student, who suggested she compile the numerous drama-based exercises into a book rather than continually providing photocopied handouts at the end of the activities. Among the many recipe cards, which were the storage for her activities, Pura selects a diverse collection of useful drama activities that are suitable (and adaptable) for children and adults of all ages. The target audience for this book includes classroom teachers, drama teachers, pre-service teachers, substitute teachers, and workshop facilitators, among others.
