Abstract
Freelance journalist and theatre critic Martin Morrow is clearly excited about rabbits – not just any rabbit of course – specifically those crazy, creative Rabbits who are the subject of his first book, Wild Theatre: The History of One Yellow Rabbit. Well travelled nationally and internationally, this eclectic and dynamic theatre company from Calgary, Alberta has been one of Western Canada’s best-kept secrets, and as Morrow says in his acknowledgements, it was high time someone wrote a book about them. Written with a fresh, journalistic eye, Wild Theatre chronicles the twenty-year history of One Yellow Rabbit (OYR), by investigating the work and aesthetic influences of the artists who originated and who still form the company today. In order to write the book, Morrow was given full access to the members of OYR and to the company files and photos. For the most part, Morrow’s book has a relaxed chronological structure, with “flashbacks” provided to explore OYR’s touring history, and finishes with a meditation on the company’s future.
